Mark your Calendars for the 2018 MHA Conference!!
By Connie Hanson
Plans are well underway for the Wednesday, April 25, 2018 MHA Annual Conference, being held once again at the Eagle Eye Conference Center. Your MHA Board has had several planning meetings and is working hard to bring you another great conference. You can count on a day filled with education, shopping, great varieties of herb plants to purchase, and of course fabulous food!
Our keynote speaker for 2018 will be Susanna Reppert Brill. Many of you are very familiar with her Roastmary Seasoning, which we offered for many years in the MHA sales area. Susanna will be giving two lectures: on how to grow and how to use medicinal plants, along with being a vendor offering products from her store, The Rosemary House, in Pennsylvania.
We are pleased to announce that several other familiar faces will be presenters in 2018. Our own Annie Gruber Magdowski, cooking writer for the MHA Journal, will be talking about hops, beer, and the great foods that go with these two Michigan favorites. Another familiar face, Dr. Norm Lownds, curator of the MSU 4-H Children’s Garden will be a presenter. Little did we know that along with his busy schedule at MSU, Norm also makes craft beers, using the flavors of the herb garden. He will be sharing ideas for “Aromatic Herbs for Beer.”
Those of you who live in the Battle Creek/Marshall area and are fortunate enough to live near Southern Exposure Herb Farm know Scott Stokes very well. Scott is one of the most recognized garden and design experts in Michigan and will be sharing ideas on both gardening and decorating with our Herb of the Year Hops.
We are once again partnering with the students and facility at the MSU greenhouses to offer a huge variety of traditional herbs and, just like last year, will have some new herb offerings that you may not find anywhere else. Watch for more conference and registration information coming in the Spring 2018 MHA Journal and on the MHA website: www.miherb.org.
